Brixton Green is a voluntary organisation which is owned by and accountable to Brixton people.
Over 1,300 Brixton people are already shareholders.
- Anyone over 16 years old who lives in one of the five wards of Brixton can become a member of Brixton Green (community benefit society) by buying a £1 share.
- One share per person. One vote per person.
- The shareholders elect the trustees.
- Only shareholders can stand for election to Brixton Green’s board.
Owning a share will not make you any money. The shares are held only for community benefit. Your liability is limited to £1.
Brixton Green’s role is to help make sure local people shape the development and how it is governed. The proposal is a for a new community trust to have a 250-year lease for the completed development from Lambeth Council. This will be called the Somerleyton Trust. Brixton Green will not be the Somerleyton Trust. Buying a share in Brixton Green ensures that Brixton Green is accountable to local people. It is not a share in the Somerleyton Trust.
